Work on the course Mid – Dec to Mid-Jan
Trees
Over the Christmas period several leylandii trees that fell over were removed. Leyandiis are designed for boundaries and to be sown in groups, therefore, we removed approx 40 other leylandii trees that were growing individually as they will eventually fall as the years pass. We have now replaced these with 75 new trees purchased at half price from Flannery’s. 3 types were used - 5 White beams, 20 Sorbus Aucuparia, and 50 Joseph Rock. These trees are fast growing and 5 year’s more mature than anything we have sown in the past. It has been a major project to remove and replant all these trees but it will be worth it as our front 9 now look much cleaner and will be easier to maintain, easier on the eye and a better course to play. One very large tree left of and just past the 16th green on the forest side fell down in the storm and broke a couple of our boundary trees it had to be removed.
Sanding of Greens
We will start our green sanding program on the 15th of February, It is well recognized that our greens to date lack sand and an extensive program going forward will bring them up to a much better standard for the coming season, if we continue with our extensive sanding program over the following 18 months we are very confident by the end of that period, we will present top class greens to our members. Marry this with the work we are doing on trees, pathways, ditches, hedges, tee boxes, drainage, fairways, it is very reasonable to expect Woodland’s Golf Club in the not to distant future to start reaching its full potential.

12th tee box
We have put a new hedge at the back of the 12th tee box which has been well received by the members. This has given the tee box a little more charter and will look well when it matures.
Extra drainage
Small drainage put in the following places to get rid of some of the pools of water that appear.

4th Fairway X 2
6th Fairway
At ladies tee box on the 7th
Between 7th green and 8th box major drainage and clean up.
Right of 8th green
9th fairway.
Area’s cleaned up
Area to the right of the entrance cleaned and not so much of an eye sore. We will wait until the car park issue is decided before putting the finishing touches.
The area to the left of the 10th fairway just as the Pitch & Puts starts has been completely cleaned and also had 2 old machines removed.
A major clean up in the yard where we have the sheds was done, more importantly it now looks more presentable.
Markers
New markers were made for all tee boxes, this included making and painting for the coming year.
Work and projects to be carried out mid- Jan to Mid-Feb
Work and projects to be carried out mid- Jan to Mid-Feb
New tee box build behind 4th tee box to extend this hole. Work has started with the base already in, there is superficial damage in this area but it will be corrected.
Higher level to be removed from back of Men’s 3rd tee box, to make 1 level and give a bigger teeing area. Also both sides and back of the 3rd to be remove and replaced with mulch and shrubs for easier maintenance, very time consuming at the moment.
We will do a similar job to the front and far side of the 14th tee box for similar reasons.
Further ditches to be cleaned, right hand side of the 4th, back of the 6th green, right side of the 8th tee box & green. These will require us to hire a bigger digger so it might not happen until later in the year.
All new drainage will be resodded when all work in this area is complete.
Further pathway extensions will be done as follows:
4th path way extended back to Men’s 4th tee box.
7th from Men’s tee box to ladies tee box, 12th 30 metres from 11th green al the way to existing path on the 12th,
From 12th green to Ladies 13th tee box to be repaired.
From 15th green to 16th tee box,
From Men’s 17th tee box down past the ladies 17th tee box tee box,
When the pathway program is completed they will be re-compacted and covered in Blue dust.
We will also put a major focus in the coming weeks on the maintaining and correcting the current trees on the course , some need to have stakes back on as they are already growing sideway’s.
